Concerning Censoring My Own Stuff

Journal Entry: Sun May 4, 2008, 11:45 PM
  • Mood: Distracted
Now, this is an interesting situation. First: I like anime. Second: so do my male friends/boyfriend. Third: They really, really enjoyed AMV Hell 3, because it's over an hour long and extremely amusing. I burned it to DVD and showed it to them not long ago.

Now, earlier I was watching AMV Hell 4, which is even longer, and just as entertaining. As I laughed I thought to myself, you know, they'd probably enjoy this.

Until I got about 3/4 of the way through, and hit the maleXmale sex scene.

Now, I have no issue with yaoi. It's just, whatever. But my male friends would slaughter me for showing them that, being the somewhat insecure lot of "manly men" that they are.

So the question I now pose to myself, and anyone reading this, is: Is it ok if I edit that scene out? They'd never know, and i'd only be removing a 30 second clip from the thing. But then it's like lying to them. Also, i'm basically censoring the movie so that it's ok to show them. And messing with the file.

As it stands, I have both copies. The edited, and the non-edited. I edited it for me at first, because that particular scene was kinda gross. I just don't like watching people french kiss. Ick. So, which do I show my friends?

And I want to show them one of the movies. I like sitting around laughing with my friends. I have so few friends who enjoy anime the way I do, that is, the watch it and then make fun of it later kind.

Not that I have to decide RIGHT NOW. Assuming I can even go visit, it'll be a couple months before I see them again. Still, it's something to think about. I'm so strongly against censorship, but that would be what I would be doing. Hmm.

Why would they hate it? 0-0 If they're terribly insecure about their own manly-manliness, there shouldn't be any problem if ye, like, reassure them that there's no OMG SEEKRIT MESSAGE in here that ye think they're pansies or something. Or, I dunno, they could just get the hell over their imaginary complexes and enjoy some funnies regardless of the mansex involved. (Sorry; I just have never ever understood that "I AM A MAN! I AM A BIG STRONG MANLY MAN! THEREFORE EVERYTHING GIRLY IS OFFENSIVE TO ME AND A DANGER TO MY MANLY MANLY MANACITY!" mindset. ._.) In any case, I'd say no, don't edit it, just enjoy it.

Also, yes. Yes, AMV Hell is hilarious. <3 Have a great time with yer friends! n-n

I don't know, I can't begin to explain why guys think the way they do. My boyfriend, for one, reacts to anything gay as though it were personal. Like the gay guys are going to jump out of the TV and rape him or something. Strange guy. He doesn't have a history of problems like that, as far as I know. And I should. It's been three years.

I dunno, I worry over silly, pointless things sometimes. I should probably just play the original, and if they freak out I can fast forward or something.

Or I could play AMV Hell 0... Not. That's definitely not something I would watch with friends. Or at all, really. =P

Play it for them anyway. There's no point in pussy footing around it. Besides, they might surprise you and find it amusing ^_^

Is this like a 'funny dubbed guy kissing guy' moment, or 'serious someone is about to take it in the back seat of a volvo guy kissing guy' moment?

As it is AMV Hell and I am sure they have seen much worse on the internet, if its the first I wouldn't worry about it. If it's the second, I'd warn them and it's there call as you have both versions

If it was the first, it wouldn't be a problem. It's your second choice. According to the credits, it's right out of a show called Sensitive Pornograph. It's a really "they're about to get it on seriously hardcore any second" scene. Followed by an implied "they are currently getting it on hardcore" scene.

I guess I could warn them. I don't wanna seem like i'm being weird though. Argh, I just really don't want to put up with them teasing me about being a yaoi lover after. I never know how to respond to that kind of teasing, and I blush like a girl in a cheesy shoujo anime. D:
